Welfare- aid to people in need: financial aid and other benefits for people who are unemployed, below a specific income level, requiring assistance.
In the 1930's, when the U.S. government relized the rising number of families in need of aid. They created a welfare program that would give assistance to those who had little to no income.
Welfare helps people in need in areas of health, housing, tax relief, and cash
assistance.
Federal Govt Welfare Programs assist the unemployed and the underemployed and the programs include: Medicaid, Food Stamps, Medicare, Head Start, Workstudy, Supplemental Security income, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs, and Temporary Assistance for needy Families.
To receive benefits, a person must contribute payroll taxes during their working years.
