Medicare
- Medicare was first signed into law July 30, 1965 by President Lyndon B. Johnson
- Made to help cover the some of the costs of medical expenses for citizens 65 and older or people with disabilities
- Covers most prescription drug costs and medical visits
- Paid for by taking money out of citizens' paychecks
- High Unemployment rate and large number of medicare subscribers leaves government to pay for more
- Contributes to national debt
- Some want to raise eligiblity age to reduce cost
